Day 650
Quitting Didn’t Have to Be a Battle
I used to drink to self-medicate. I thought I was numbing depression, but later learned I was really trying to quiet anxiety, ADHD, and bipolar symptoms. Alcohol kept all that at bay, but it also kept me stuck in a loop of never letting my body or mind actually rest.
Here’s the strange part: when I finally quit, it wasn’t some heroic fight. I didn’t go through a brutal detox, didn’t count the hours, I just… stopped.
I’d tried to quit before and always failed. Then, one day, I started reading Alan Carr’s "Easy Way to Quit Drinking". I wasn’t even planning to quit that day — I just started reading it. But, something in it completely rewired how I saw alcohol. It wasn’t willpower; it was clarity. Once I really saw what alcohol was doing, I didn’t want it anymore.
It almost felt like I cheated. But, now I see it differently: quitting doesn’t always have to be a battle. Sometimes it’s just about finding the perspective that makes drinking lose its appeal.
