Sobriety, Celibacy and Staying Single
First of all, I am more excited today than I usually am for my real birthday. I *earned* this. It's been 30 days, but it's been 1000 nights and it has *not* been easy. It is truly mind boggling how much simpler my life is when I'm sober. AA has been an amazing gift to me, as have all of you (/u/dustystars, you were so sweet to me on our first day. I will *never* forget that.)
In giving up alcohol I'm able to more focus on my other issues, and *man* are there a lot. I am batshit crazy and emotionally retarded. I haven't done half the growing I was supposed to do in college because I've been drunk all the time. There is *a lot* of work to be done. But I can do it now! I'm ready! Here's the thing:
I think I'd like to take a year (starting from my sobriety date) and stay single and celibate too. I know that staying single for a year is considered to be a good thing, but it isn't in the book (to my knowledge). This seems to cause a bit of alarm in many of the people I seek guidance from. I realize it seems rather dramatic, but I just got out of an ugly breakup (my first sober breakup... it hurts... *a lot*) and don't intend to date anyone anytime soon.. I also don't tend have sex outside of *some* sort of commited situation, so the celibacy is implied rather than enforced.
What do you guys think? Am I going overboard? Should I question the motives of people disturbed by my decision to abstain while I focus on my recovery?
