Today is Day 1

I’m a 42/yo man with a million reasons to be happy and grateful in my life. I have a very loving and supporting wife & two amazing boys (9 & 4).

I posted something last night (that was ultimately removed by mods for reasons I understand) but the response I received from complete internet strangers touched the deepest parts of my heart. I felt supported and heard some very inspiring messages.

I’m tired of coping with life problems in a way that I know will kill me. It’s been going on far too long. The off again / on again relationship with drinking versus not drinking is confusing and hard. Every day is a decision and sometimes I get it right, sometimes I get it wrong.

I want to stop. I need to stop. I want to show up better for my wife. I want to show up better for my kids. I owe that to them.

I’ve had similar mindsets many, many times but mostly with the approach of “I need to take a break and cleanse”…never with the attitude of going completely dry. But that changes today.

Today is day one. One year from now I would like to come back here and share that I am 1 year sober.

I don’t know who to share this with but I’m sharing it here.
