'Tude Talk Tuesday for October 27, 2026

Hello, fellow Sobernauts!

Welcome to 'Tude Talk Tuesday, where you're invited to share what changes you've noticed in your attitudes and perspectives since you've gotten sober.

I once heard someone say "I got sober for a damn good reason and I stay sober for a damn good reason" and that resonated with me.

As my drinking dragged me lower and lower and lower, I finally reached a point where, despite thinking that drinking was the only way to have fun, the only thing giving me relief, and the only way I could exist, I also felt like I had to stop because it had made my life unlivable. That was a damn good reason to get sober.

Today, I stay sober for a damn good reason, though I'm not sure that its the same reason that first got me sober. I got sober out of desperation, pain, and fear. I stay sober out of hope, relief, and joy. It has taken a lot of work to get, and continues to take effort to stay, happily sober. Sobriety was the first step I needed to take on a long journey of self-improvement, but I feel like I've come so far from who I was when I was drinking and my life has become so much more than it was. I have a life I want to keep living and I can't fathom trading for all the booze in the world. If that's not a damn good reason to stay sober, I don't know what is.

So how about you? What was your damn good reason for getting sober and what's your damn good reason for staying sober?
