Last weekend vs this weekend

First and foremost I was sober and it feels amazing. Last weekend I was completely worthless. Sitting around on the couch falling asleep while my 10 year old son stared at his iPad wondering what was wrong with me. Stopped drinking when my wife got home from being out of town and woke up Monday morning feeling like death. Called into work and layed in bed all day. Took all week to recover from that 7 day bender.

Felt much better on Friday although I still had a horrible time trying to sleep. Pushing through the nightmares, waking up in a pool of sweat, and getting about 3-4 hours of sleep each night. Saturday morning was much better. Did some shopping and then started on a project in the attic installing a new power outlet so I could run power from the ceiling of the garage. It wasn't an easy job but I did it because I wasn't shit faced. Got the new outlet installed, secured the electrical in a junction box in the attic (which was originally tied all together with wire nuts and laying exposed in insulation), and mounted a surge protector to the garage ceiling. Went to see some Christmas lights with my wife and son Saturday night. I was present and alert the whole time because I wasn't shit faced.

Woke up early Sunday morning, went to church, went grocery shopping, hung some Christmas decorations, installed a smart garage door opener hub, and finally relaxed on the couch to watch a little football and enjoy an amazing dinner with my family. Again, I was present and alert because I wasn't shit faced.

What's the point of telling you all this? Alcohol sucks. Drinking alcohol sucks even more. I've had too many day ones to count and I'm sick of it. Pulled out the tools I know will keep me straight as long as I continue using them. Today IS NOT day one and I hope I never have another. Here's to day 8. IWNDWYT!
