Paradox Vs Originals comparison - Jigglypuff (Though really it's Wigglytuff)
Hi I'm going to be doing an analysis of all the paradox pokemon to see which ones are better than their originals and which ones aren't. I've played pokemon for a while but I'm still a bit of an amateur in doubles so if there are any corrections people have feel free to put it in the comments. This analysis is on Technically Jigglypuff's paradox Scream Tail. For these paradoxes of unevolved pokemon I'll be using the evolved one unless the unevolved form can do something different or better like utilize eviolite. Since Jigglypuff's defences are awful it doesn't get much help from eviolite so I'll be using Wiggyltuff.
Roles: Wigglytuff's role in singles is to mainly be a defensive support pokemon with the ability to have a bit of offensive pressure against things like hazard setters. I've never really seen it doubles but I'd imagine it'd fill much the same role maybe rocking heal pulse and perish song. Scream Tail fills the same roles. So who does it better?
Typing: Defensively Wigglytuff has the better typing having immunities to two really strong types, it's resistances aren't as common as Scream tails 1/4 fighting resist but it also has one less weakness. 1) Wigglytuff. Offensively Scream Tail is better typed as normal doesn't really do much except for allowing WIggs to hit poison and fire for neutral damage, whereas psychic gives it two extra super effective types one of which is poison. 1) Scream Tail.
Stats: Overall BST: Scream Tail has a much higher BST being 135 points higher. Physical Bulk: Despite having a much higher HP stat by 35 points Wigglytuff's defense stats let it down when compared to Scream Tail. Which has much better physical bulk due to having a 44 point higher defense stat. 1) ST. Special Bulk: Scream tail's special bulk is even better than its physical bulk having matching HP and SP def stats of 115 crushing wigglytuff's miniscule 50. 1) ST. Speed: When it comes to speed there is no contest, Wigglytuff is on the slower end of mons sitting at only 45 whereas Scream tail is in the upper echelons of speed having a speed stat of 111. WIgglytuff's slow speed does let it work it trick room teams though. 1)ST. Physical attack: WIgglytuff wins out by 5 points in the contest of physical attack. Though I'd also argue that it suffers from the same issue as Delibird, as its primary attacking stat is special, and it doesn't have enough other things going for it to want to be a mixed attacker. It'd be better off having those stats invested in just making its HP bigger or increasing its defensive stats, so all though this is technically a victory it really doesn't mean much. 1) WIgglytuff. Special Attack: WIgglytuff actually also wins out in this category by 85 points, letting it give a little more offensive pressure without having to set up, mainly because unlike with Scream Tail setting up with it isn't super viable. 1) Wigglytuff.
Ability: Scream Tail has a pretty good ability in protosynthesis allowing it to boost either its speed or its special bulk if holding the booster energy or in sun. Though if you're running other paradoxes with booster energy you'll have to rely on the sun to trigger it meaning you'll either need to build your team around it or your opponent have sun team (which tbf are more common in this format) if not its sometimes just a do nothing ability. Wigglytuff on the other hand also has pretty good abilities, Frisk allows it to let you gather information, and is especially good in doubles finding out both opponents held items. Competitive is also another great option as it can strongly increase wigglytuff's offensive capabilities and as abilities like intimidate and hazards like sticky webs are common in singles this can actually be decently reliable. The same goes for doubles where on top of intimidate many pokemon carry stat lowering moves that hit both slots. It's close but I'd say in terms of pure abilities WIgglytuff wins.
Movepool: These pokemon have almost identical move pools so the difference comes down to how they can use them. In singles they both probably use very similar supporting type moves, like wish, protect, and stealth rocks. Both probably run dazzling gleam for damage. A competitive wigglytuff could potentially run other strong coverage moves to like fire blast with it's higher base damage output. In contrast Scream tail can afford to run things like setup moves such as calm mind to boost it's damage and hit hard and fast with higher speed. In terms of doubles Scream tail has the advantage of being faster allowing it to quickly setup things like screens, whereas wigglytuff can't do as much except for potentially strange round shenanigans. Overall I'd say Scream Tail uses the movepool better due to it's higher speed and better bulk.
Overall: It's quite close neither of these mons are honestly that good however Scream Tail wins here I think for the reasons I just mentioned as its speed just allow it to do more outside of needing to be on a trick room team and its bulk allows it to stay alive longer to provide more support to your other pokemon. So Paradox wins.
Paradox -3 Current Timeline -1. Next up will probably be The Wide Sumo Lad Hariyama.
