#/r/AppHookup

**20,530** hookers for **1 year**

How many times has someone said this to you?

>Yo dawg, hook me up wit dem mad birds.

Too many, right? Well, do I have a solution for you - /r/AppHookup.

Spread the word, tell your friends, and download unnecessary amounts of apps until your family and friends become concerned for your safety. You won't regret it.

App hookup subscribers find apps on sale (on iOS, android, etc.) and share them with the community. Also, It is a great way to promote an app. It isn't uncommon for a developer of an app to post their hookup on the subreddit to gain some attention/traction.

The subreddit is a win-win-win.........We get free apps, developers get customers, and apps get exposure.

If my iPhone didn't have folders to hold multiple apps, I would have every page filled up already. It's a problem, but if you're willing to get hooked on apps then this is the subreddit for you.

Interview with /u/reemusk and /u/Antrikshy:

>##1) Is there anything you would like to say to potential new subscribers?

>>**reemusk:** don't think this is just an iOS subreddit. We occasionally have Android, Windows Phone, OSX, PC, and even BlackBerry deals. The "promo code" process only works for iOS, but price drops are always welcome to be posted too. Help us out and find them!

>>**Antrikshy:** Be active! Contribute a lot of deals. As reemusk said, we are an all-platform subreddit. We haven't formally asked our subscribers to do this yet, but it'd be great if all submitters (or someone else on their behalf) commented on all posts saying whether the in-app purchases (in iOS apps) are annoying at all. Users, contribute your experience in the comments and tell other people if the app is worth getting at the discounted price or even for free.

>##2) What was your inspiration for creating or becoming a moderator for /r/AppHookup?

>>**reemusk:** I always seen deals posted in /r/iOSGaming, /r/iPhone, /r/Android, etc, and I was always missing out. I went searching for other subreddits, but none were specific to this (/r/GameDeals is pretty close, and a really cool subreddit). So I created /r/AppHookup. I brought help on at around 10k users, and we've been growing since then.

>>**Antrikshy:** I have an interesting story. Long back when the subreddit was new, it was in the /r/iPad sidebar. However, many of us on the iOS subs are mobile app users so we seldom read the sidebar. I made a post on /r/iPad publicizing /r/AppHookup and it took off quickly. Over time, it has grown. I was only recently appointed as part of a group of mods who would reach out to developers to request them for app deals. The campaign hasn't been going well and I have stuck around. I don't have full mod powers yet (can I get them, superior mods? I'd love to moderate the sub).

>##3) What has been the greatest markdown in price of any app?

>>**reemusk:** Adobe Ideas went from $9.99 to Free for a while. Game-wise, Plants vs. Zombies HD went from $6.99 to free. Galaxy on Fire 2 HD did the same drop as well.

>>**Antrikshy:** Since Apple started doing their Free App of the Week thing on the App Store, there have been amazing deals now and then. All Angry Birds games except Star Wars and Space have gone free at some point. The entire Halfbrick catalog (Fruit Ninja etc.) went free once. Adobe Ideas was a cool free deal recently. Penultimate (one of the best iPad note-taking apps) went permanently free.

>##4) What is your favorite app?

>>**reemusk:** my favorite app right now is Feedly. My favorite app that I scored from /r/AppHookup has to be Plex. The dev team is super cool and they were the first major app to have codes posted here. I'm partial to that, as it's like a little trophy on my iPhone.

>>**Antrikshy:** This is hard to say. Some apps look great, some apps have great functionality. The most used apps for me (on iPad and iPhone) are Alien Blue, Netflix and Skype I guess.

>##5) Do you receive a lot of developers promoting their own apps? How is the relationship between the developers and yourselves/community?

>>**reemusk:** we have a mix of both users finding deals and developers looking for feedback/sharing their app. We'd like to get more big names involved, and occasionally they do post. Most of it is smaller developers (i.e. not the big corporations). One of the visions I had when I started this subreddit was having big-name developers post promo codes here, and/or price drops. Turns out, people really like helping people find deals (and reap that sweet karma). We wouldn't be anywhere near where we are now without the help of our user base. We love all of them!

>>**Antrikshy:** We have some developers come now and then. We welcome them if they want to promote their stuff, but only if they give away codes and/or mark down prices. As reemusk said, users share most of the deals for the karma. When I find a good deal, I certainly rush to /r/AppHookup to check if it has been posted.

>##6) What do you enjoy most about moderating this subreddit?

>>**reemusk:** I personally enjoy the mod team. They are the best in the business. Quick, professional, helpful, and always looking to better the subreddit. I also love coming to check the subreddit throughout the day to watch for great deals, just like everyone else.

>>**Antrikshy:** I don't have full mod powers, so I don't do any moderation. But I am involved in making plans now and then.

>##7) Would you like to make any closing remarks? (Shameless plugs, thank subscribers, etc.)

>>**Antrikshy:** Thanks to all our users. This sub has grown well and has replaced all my app-deal-tracking sites and services. I hope to see it keep growing and eventually have a post that hits the front page (Alien Blue for iPad goes free?).

>>**reemusk:** us? shameless plugs? never! well, if you insist:

>>/r/Jailbreak is a great community and my favorite subreddit to hang out in (other than AppHookup!)

>>/r/iOSGaming is our sister subreddit, so you can post reviews and thoughts about games you got the hookup on.

>>the mod team at /r/KarmaCourt

>>/r/MntG crew!

>>As for what I'd like users to know?

>>We love you! You guys all rock, especially if you post, and SUPER especially if you thank people for posting codes!

>>http://codehookup.com is a specially crafted site just for /r/AppHookup promo codes. (thanks to /u/victoknight)

>>Jailbreak price drops are always welcome

>>We really do accept any OS/platform
