Tip: Making the transition to smart cast (Semi-smart cast)
Hey friends, I thought I would share this with you all, as it's not *that* well known.
First off, if you don't know what smart cast is: it's a setting in your keybinds to cast your spells on **key down**. Casting your spell where you aim your mouse (Making all your spells like flash). This can be difficult to get used to if you don't know the range of your spells. But once you know what you're doing it can save you milliseconds - the difference between landing a skill shot and killing a carry or missing and potentially dying.
Now! If you're happy to use that then go a head, but there is a gateway for those that aren't. You can enable "on key release" smart cast, allowing you to aim your spells first (which gives you the range too) and also giving you the option to cancel the spell with a right click. The difference in cast time I would imagine is somewhere in between the full smart cast and the "on click" cast.
To enable this you have to edit one game file. It's not complicated. Simply go to the directory where LoL is installed, for many this will be:
C:\Program Files\League of Legends
Then go into the "config" folder, right click Game.cfg and edit in notepad.
You'll see a list of text, if you're a programmer you will recognise these as variables - Regardless, press CTRL + F (find) or search down the list for:
SmartCastOnKeyRelease=0
Change the 0 to a 1 and save. This enables the semi-smartcast option. After this, you *may* need to restart your LoL client.
It's important to note, as long as your keybinds are not set to smart cast in game, this will not affect you at all :).
**You will find each champion needs different spells set to smart cast**.
You then need to enter a game, press your Escape/ Esc button on you keyboard and go to keybinds set them (QWER) to smartcast. After this, it will automatically do it on key release.
Do note that as with the original smartcast you will find that different champions may require some spells to be cast normally - most commonly your ultimate.
For example, aiming your ultimate on Lux, Ashe or Ezreal can be incredibly difficult and punishing with smartcast. In these cases, set your ultimate to normal cast. Corki and Leblanc are examples of champions that you will want to use smartcast on.
