Deploying Tablet in Outdoors/Manufacturing Environment

Apologies if this is getting too far off-topic, but I couldn't really think of any other subreddits that would be a good fit and I figure my fellow sysadmins are a wealth of experience for this sort of thing. If you know a better place to post this sort of question, please let me know!

I've been asked to furnish one of our employees with a 7" Android tablet that will be used for accessing e-mail and a web portal to our inventory system.

He drives a forklift and will be frequently exposing this device to inclement weather plus there's the threat of it falling off the lift.

Frankly, we have every expectation this thing will break eventually and this is something of a test program anyway, so we're planning to start by giving him an inexpensive ASUS MeMO Pad 7.

What I'm looking for today is any recommendations from anyone who has worked with conditions like this for cases/treatments that will provide some basic fall protection and water resistance.

I'd also love to hear any recommendations for outdoor wireless APs. I've got a couple I've got my eye on, but recommendations from folks actually using them is always welcome.
