Win10 and Office 2016 broken

Hi, we have had a number of Win 10 boxes with office 2016 break recently. The office install disappears from start menu and refuses to open if you try from install location. The start menu is also missing the small user icon for logging off or locking screen (making more than just an office issue)

We have removed office and trued to install it again but issue remains. We have uninstalled latest updates but still the same. I have tried logging in with new AD user to see if it was an issue with the profile but still the same.

The only way to solve it is to do a fresh start re-install and set the user up from scratch.

Has anyone else come across this and do you have a solution?

Machines are a mix of HP and Dell, Laptops and Desktops, I believe I have only witnessed it on 1709 but could be mistaken. They all use Sophos InterceptX Endpoint AV.
