It just says login!
I uh...I have to share this or I'm going to die of an aneurysm.
Setting the stage: It is 2:30PM. I tried to get a delicious burger and fries from Heart-Attack-In-A-Box at lunch. The fries were burned and stale (I know right? So THOSE go in the garbage). The burger was mediocre at best. I'm hungry, but soldiering on.
A call comes in from AutoGuy. AutoGuy is a whiz with automotive technology, but he's a bit...something else with computers. I sigh, but answer the phone.
>IT, this is Doc speaking.
>AutoGuy: Yeah, I can't login again.
I should note he had called the previous week to reset his password. Our secretary walked him through it for 30 minutes. He called back and I answered and spent another 15 reassuring him it was ok to just put his password in and not worry about his username (He somehow forgot Windows 7 doesn't ask for the username on his current setup).
> Doc: Ok, what's the screen say? Username and password or just password?
>AutoGuy: Just says "Login" and has an input box.
>Doc: Uh...ok, put your username in.
*wtf? That doesn't sound right at all. Why wouldn't it say password?*
> AutoGuy: Now it has a red box saying unknown user.
> Doc: Uuuuuuh. Ok, try your password.
> AutoGuy: Still says in red, unknown user.
*Ok, this is friggin weird, Windows login screen doesn't DO red boxes OR text.*
> Doc: Ok, read the ENTIRE screen to me.
> AutoGuy: It just has a box that's around the thing where it says "Login" and it has a box you can type in.
> Doc: Ok, I'll be right over.
*grumble grumble, grab a witness and go over to the auto-shop* So we walk into his office and I look at his screen. I almost slapped him right there. The screen has the logo of a banking establishment on it, taking up a good 1/8 of the screen in the upper left corner.
>Doc: AutoGuy, that's a webpage asking you to sign in to your banking stuff. That's not us.
He literally hung his head in shame and apologized somewhere on the order of 50 times before we left. I almost felt bad for him, but man alive, when I ask you to read the entire screen to me...you might break out of your tunnel vision long enough to look at the whole thing. He still made us watch as he rebooted and logged in to Windows, too.
