Step 1: insert foot into mouth

So another small gem that happened recently. I actually let this one stew a few days to see if I actually got myself into trouble.

I get this notice on Monday morning from our network admin that one of the VPs' computer has lots of outbound traffic...looks like they got a spambot, or something, need to go pick it up. I roll in at 7:20 and immediately go pick it up. No one around, so I just grab it and go.

Get a text later from my division VP to get the other VP a loaner laptop, so I grab a spare and take it up to her. She's on speaker phone when I get there, but pauses her conversation to talk with me (not muted)

>VP: so what was it?

>me: oh, just a virus of some kind, no biggy.

> VP: oh, who got it on there?

I immediately spat out the first answer that popped into my head.

> me: who uses it?

Oh god, did I just smart mouth a VP? Please say something smart. But before I can she responds.

>VP: I don't go anywhere odd on it, though.

>me: ah, well, I've seen some new ads where if you roll over them, they get you with that, it could have been anywhere.

Yeah, yeah, that'll do, now shut up and set up the laptop. Oh shit, she never hung up the speaker phone. I'll just go sit in my office and hope I don't get fired.

Apparently, there were no hard feelings because I never heard anything about it.
