Getting a tattoo on a 10 day holiday

Hi!

I don't have a specific design in mind so I'm not 100% sure if this fits the rules of the sub, but I suppose I'll see if it stays up.

I'm going to visit a friend in China this summer and I'll be there for about 10 days. I'm thinking of getting a small tattoo when I'm there to celebrate our friendship and as a kind of fun keepsake. I'm not worried about liking what I'll choose or anything like that.

What I am thinking about is whether or not it's a good idea. I've seen wild posts on here with infected tattoos, people flying with their arms throbbing and ready to fall off, stuff like that. I'd be in a foreign country practically scarring myself and hoping there's no complications.

I've got one other tattoo which healed fine, it's on my lower arm. I have considered of getting it way before or after the trip, but it wouldn't really be the same I feel. Part of it is getting it there.

So my main question is: is it a dumb idea? Surely people get tattoos when traveling all the time, I just want to hear some thoughts on getting a tattoo like that, what would be the smartest way to go about it - when would be the best time to get it done (like day 2?), where on the body is 'safest', etc.

I hope this is taken as intended. I will of course also do my own research on the topic, but I'm curious (again mainly in regard to a lot of the horrors seen on here) about experiences or advice some might have. Thanks!
