Is there a trick to using cast iron teacups?

I bought an enameled cast iron teacup and was pretty disappointed the first time I used it. The outside of the cup got too hot to hold, and by the time it cooled down the tea inside was lukewarm. Is there any way to use this (maybe some kind of cozy?) or am I missing something because this doesn't seem like something you could actually use.
