Ramp to Canned in 4 months
I have been in SaaS sales for 7 years. I started in startups from BDR to AE. I found myself at a mid-cap company through an acquisition a few years ago, and stayed for almost 3 years. I have been an high performer throughout but like many have had tough quarters and also some wild luck along the way.
This year I decided to go back to the startup world and entered an MM AE role at a high growth AI company. The team is killing it and the PMF is high.
I started this summer and my ramp has been difficult to say the least. I’ve closed one small deal and working towards a few more. Today my boss asked me if I’d want to fight it out for one more month or potentially take severance. I was shocked - I may not hit ramp but it’s not for a lack of trying.
I have adjusted to the selling motion, but when I first got my book it was run through. I had to rebuild my book with my BDR and worked to get him booking more meetings.
The leader that hired me left 30 days in and I was put in a new team.
Also, the company has moved from a spot solution to platform selling and the cycles have increased in length.
I don’t want to leave as it feels like a major failure, but it also seems crazy to me that they are threatening to let me go barely 100 days in.
Is this how AI startups are now? Should I just take the potential severance? Do I even want to work at a place that would fire a new rep and not given them time?
