Backplate fell off and now wont fit

I installed the i7 12700k and dismounted the CPU socket for the cpu fan installation in the B760 gaming plus wifi board (LGA 1700) and now the backplate fell off and it doesnt fit back no matter how hard i try. At most i can make it fit 2 screws in a diagonal line but thats it. Am i doing something wrong?
