Trying to fix my dad's PC and I think it's just fucked
Now I'll start with what I think is wrong with it: he bought the worst computer imaginable in 2019 and now it's 2026 and it's just broken.
It's an AMD FX-8800P based system, that's a laptop chip, I'm assuming a bunch of companies got rid of their laptops and they shoved that into motherboards and sold them as real computers.
Problem: it won't boot. On boot it bluescreens with UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. It then reboots and tries to repair the volume and fails.
So I threw a Hiren's Boot CD at it, to see if I could clone the hard drive onto an SSD and if that would fix it.
And then Hiren's also had a bluescreen, before I could even do anything with it. Just desktop, freeze, bluescreen. Stop code: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED. What failed: Ntfs.sys
I tried remaking Hiren's on a known good Samsung SSD to see if I had a corrupt Hiren's installation but got the same error.
My current plan is to just throw 160€ at a refurbished i3-8100/8GB based Dell OptiPlex and he'd actually end up with an upgrade.
Anyone ever seen Hiren's bluescreen? That has to just be a fucky motherboard/CPU/something, right?
