My hard drive just made a loud beeping noise.
I bought a second hand 2TB 2.5" (ST2000LM003) hard drive some time ago, it now has about a month of operational hours.
Anyway, I was (am still) copying a large amount of files (600GB), when I heard a loud beeping noise that lasted for about 2 seconds. I think it came from the hard drive, as I have never heard this before when I didn't have the hard drive yet.
This happened once before, when I was encrypting it with Veracrypt.
The SMART data tells me everything is OK, but I want to be sure.
I do have backups, in fact, I'm using this as a second backup disk.
It has 0 reallocated sectors.
Also, the SMART data section of Ubuntu's disk utility tells me that some things are 'Pre-Fail', and all the others are 'old age'. Is this a problem or is this normal?
