Weird artifacts after an hour or two of gameplay
Hi!
So, I've started to have some weird visual glitches in Elite Dangerous. First the textures/flat parts of ships stopped rendering and my own ship's paintjob would come flying off its wireframe and obstruct my view. Then I made sure my software was updated, turned down some of my graphics settings even further (bloom, occlusion, etc), and redid the tuning on the gpu via Radeon's basic software options. It seemed to get worse. Tried everything today, and it was working better than ever, until I started getting weird sort of spiky edges on asteroids in the game. This all started spontaneously, no settings or updates had occurred in months, I haven't done anything new to the GPU. Another user in an Elite Dangerous specific forum figures the card might be giving up the ghost. Is the card on the way out or is there a setting or something that might be doing this?
Specs:
CPU- i7 2700k
RAM- 16gb
GPU- Sapphire Nitro+ Rx 580 8gb Legendary Edition
Playing in 1080p, I've got 3 monitors but don't muck around with any eyefinity stuff.
Below is a link to a screenshot of what I'm talking about, with the asteroids weird texture visible on the left and AMD's metrics program running on the monitor adjacent. I don't know if the spiking utilization is normal or not, I hadn't paid much attention to metrics until it started misbehaving.

Edit: Turns out it was something wrong with my supersampling in Elite. I had it turned up to 1.25X and for some reason it didn't like that. 1.5X is hunky dory so far, weirdly. GPU is on absolute stock settings now and after adjusting a few things in Elite I'm getting a decent look and seemingly stable 60fps without any weird artifacts. Temps are fluctuating in the 60's under load, and my fans almost never break 1000rpm. I double checked in Sapphire Trixx to make sure my fan health was good- they're pretty quiet on this card but I do hear them gear up when the software says they do, and Trixx gives them the green light. I floated around in an asteroid field for a few hours and it seems to be doing fine. I'll really put it through the paces tonight, but I have a feeling I'm in the clear. No idea why it started having issues, but I'll keep a closer eye on things going forward.
