Looking for a new/used telescope as a present

Hi

My girlfriend has always wanted a telescope and its her birthday soon. I do photography as a hobby and i would be interested in taking some photos of the moon + anything else that catches my eye. We live in London so we have too much light pollution. I would be taking the telescope out with me to darker places. I am capable of walking around all day with a camera tripod and lenses in a backpack. All the telescopes i've seen (except maybe the Celestron Travelscope 70) look as though you'd need to drive most of the way and would be awkward on public transport.

I have done some basic research and understand the different types of telescope. A lot of people on here recommend a dobsonian type, however i have read they are not designed or straight forward to use with a DSLR which is what puts me off. They cost more than some reflector telescopes that i've seen but given the aperture and ease of use, i would be prepared to go for a budget model.

I think i have narrowed down my selection to the Celestron 130EQ. It mounts on a tripod and i believe should be easier to use with a DSLR (providing i use an adaptor). I get a feel it would be easier to lug around as well but please correct me if i am wrong on any of these points. It has a 130mm aperture, so it should be ok for the moon. Would i be able to catch anything else worthy of photographing on this telescope?

Thanks
