What is your favourite series finale?
I recently finished watching *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* for the first time, and while I did enjoy the series as a whole, I couldn't help but feeling a little let down by the finale - namely, how 'final' and satisfying it felt. In some ways, it felt like the show didn't *need* to end here, and I even felt a more natural ending point came earlier with the finale of Season >!5!< (I know the show's been out for 20 years so the spoiler tag may not be necessary but hey, you never know who might be reading this).
Getting to the point, mulling this over really reinforced to me how much I love the finale to the *Battlestar Galactica* reboot, and what I look for in a finale. I appreciate it's perhaps not the most satisfying of an ending in terms of plot, with the resolution kind of coming out of nowhere (in a way), and the answer to one of the show's long-running mysteries (>!the Opera House!<) falling a little flat. We don't even get an answer for who or what >!'God'!< is, although the little tease at the very end was good enough for me tbh.
However, for me this was more than made up for by the emotional quality of the finale. The build-up to the last episodes created a powerful sense that things were definitely coming to an end - everything felt like it was coming to a head and you got the sense that all bets were off in terms of where the story could go. The final scenes dealing with wrapping up the remaining characters' fates are also among the most moving I've seen in television. A certain moment in the last few minutes of the show almost brought me to tears (>!"You know, I know about farming"!<), and in general it made me realise just how invested I was in these characters. And in the end, I found myself valuing the emotional and character aspect of the show a lot more than the actual 'mechanics' of the plot.
With that in mind, what are some of your favourite series finales that you feel did the show justice? Please use spoiler tags if you can.
