Scored a bottle of Fort (I kid, I kid!) Pasote 1579
I stopped at a small liquor store to see what they had to offer on my way home from a monthly meeting I have on the other side of town. There wasn't a great selection but they had an Ocho Blanco and Pasote. Since I already have both, I wasn't going to get anything but I decided to take a closer look at the Pasote since I knew they changed NOMs a while back. To my surprise, it was from NOM 1579, so at $39.99 I decided to grab one.
Anyway, just wanted to post about how surprised I was at how very different it tastes and smells compared to the NOM 1584 version. I'm not great at finding the right adjectives to describe the smells and flavors I get, but I definitely get some similar notes as the G4s, whereas with the 1584 it's just completely different. I see a lot of people describe it as anise heavy, and that's probably what I'm picking up quite strongly, but the 1579 has none of that whatsoever.
I've really enjoyed the 1584 bottle, but while trying them side by side, the 1584 just tasted and smelled weird after having had the 1579 a few minutes before. It's almost like I have to avoid drinking them on the same day because they are so different.
Not a review or anything, just some random thoughts. I'm glad I was able to get a bottle, since a lot of people seemed generally disappointed when they switched to NOM 1584.
