Stereotypes regarding Texas & minorities

Hello everyone! Before I get started, I want to mention that I greatly admire Texas, its distinct culture and community, and its place in American History and present day. I wanted to mention all this because I do plan on visiting Texas, and there is even a part of me that wants to live there. What bars me from committing to this is the stereotypes associated with the state, and it's rumored treatment of minorities. I'm an Asian-American (Bengali) from NJ, and I know stereotypes have to be taken with a grain of salt, but stereotypes come from some truths, although I also realize they can be distorted. With that said, how true are the stereotypes regarding texas and racism/prejudice, and how is it like living in Texas as a minority? How is it like living there in general?
