Can we all spend a moment to hate on the Bush Family?
A statement from W regarding ICE wouldn't change very many minds. It wouldn't provide moral clarity for people in the current administration to pull back. It wouldn't send any retirees in Florida to call their members of Congress. It wouldn't push a dog in Texas to pee on their MAGA family's rug.
But maybe it would do something else. Like it could help set the floor for how human beings in polite society should act. Like, if you want to do the absolute minimum as a person with any connection to your country, the least you could do is not to retreat back into your family's fortune and insulate yourself from the messy world that the rest of us live in. The least you could do is affirm that we are all living in the same universe.
I know that the mission of the Bush family is to just plow as much of their shame into the memory hole so that maybe some grandchild can have a political future in a Republican Party that splits its time like a child of divorce between a dad who loves war and a mom who hates immigrants.
Even the George W. Bush Presidential Library news releases read like a bizarre diary of a neoconservative shadow government, boxing a ghost in a retirement home.
They are exactly who all of us know they are.
