[SPOILERS] Do you think the reaction would be more positive if >!the game was in chronological order!<?
Most of the (level-headed) backlash I'm seeing is around the story order. Not only is Joel killed around 90 minutes in (at this point, you don't know about the flashbacks), but after playing as Ellie and reaching the first climax, you're then brought back to Day 1 and are forced to spend the next 10 hours or so playing as Abbie.
I think one of the legitimate criticisms is that this can disrupt the pacing for some. I know *why* Naughty Dog chose to do it this way (you're supposed to have anger & disgust during Ellie's journey, and grow to like Abbie through her journey), but some people seem to not be able to disconnect Abbie from her act earlier in the game.
I found [a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9TZQ2eKkdY) that put the entire game in chronological order, where you are introduced to Abbie first and losing her dad is her "Sarah moment". In this format, Joel is present for closer to 4 hours of the story (with gameplay included) before his death. You also then alternate days in Seattle between Ellie and Abbie, which I could see potentially working for some.
I lean toward the original layout but wanted to see what y'all think?
