TOW2 - after 80 hours, I finished the game, here is my opinion on it!

I'm gonna preface, I'm a casual gamer and I'm really bad at explaining things.

So after 80 hours I finished my first playthrough.

Normally my first playthroughs are pretty much just figuring out the mechanics and such. I pay attention to the story but there's a lot going on so it usually takes a 2nd run to really get the story down.

In my opinion, #1 was better. I still enjoyed 2. And I'm going to play it again. But 2 felt flat. That's the only way I can describe it.

I miss the companions. They talked to each other a lot more in 1. You got to really see their personalities shine. In 2, they just don't talk as much. I noticed Tristan and Niles seemed to have talked the most. I LOVED those two together. But in 1, the companions talked all the time, elevators, roaming about, chit chatting. They reacted to what I did more in 1.

They got rid of the cool companion abilities slo-mo shots which was a bummer.

Things just didn't seem as unhinged as they did in TOW1. But again my first playthroughs aren't 100% on the story as much as I'd like so hopefully the next one I can get into a lot more.

I missed Spacer's Choice lol

From what I've read this is a true RPG so the lack of companion, food and armor skill buffs give it more of the RPG feel. That said, I didn't like not having the buffs. I understand this forces you to really focus on your build but dang, having to do a playthrough to do a build for a specific skill check every just seems excessive.

So some good stuff, I super liked the guns. I really felt like they gave them some cool shit so for me the gun play was fun.

There was a SHIT TON to do. I loved just checking every nook and corner. Finding cool entries that referenced something you saw earlier in the game. I think The Hope came up like once also.

I don't play in 3rd person but having the option to see what you are wearing was cool. Speaking of it seemed like there were a ton more armor looks. There was some cool looking armor to wear. I even wore shit just to wear it even if it was low level. It just looked cool.

In good ol OW fashion, the worlds were beautiful to look at. It was never boring to wander around. And I feel like your choices mattered a lot more. There were times I almost lost a companion because I didn't realize I chose an option that would hella piss them off.

I do wish The Protectorate was a faction we could choose but I think someone posted that Obsidian said it would be too expensive?

The subject matter seemed a lot darker. Which I really liked. The last bit of the game had my anxiety up because it was just so creepy and unsettling.

Anyways, there's my opinion from a casual gamer.

I 100% recommend the game. It is a lot of fun but it's a lot different than the first.

K bye
