Thoughts for newer therapists
I've seen a lot of people in this sub anxious about having the 'right tools' and wondering about the modalities they should learn to be good therapists. If that describes you, then I hope these thoughts give you some solace.
Nancy McWilliams was asked what she wished to tell herself when she was a beginning therapists. She said "I think my therapist-self needed to tolerate more uncertainty. Like a lot of people just beginning, I was clinging to a lot of theory to understand 'what's the right thing to do here', rather than relaxing and trusting my human wish to help as the primary tool that I had, trusting my own curiosity and my wish to understand people as a primary intervention."
