Closing session tips?

It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten to have an intentional wrap-up session with a well-established client. So far in my career, I’ve had a lot of casual ends, ghostings, referrals, etc but not often have I known I’d have a full session to close out.

It’s a tough one: an older adolescent I’ve worked with for several years and I didn’t see it coming. I have concerns about the timing and motivation to make a change, but can really only honor their autonomy.

I don’t love things that are too scripted or forced, so having a formal goodbye conversation feels daunting…like a breakup lol.

**I welcome any tips about how you’ve approached terminating with a long-time client.**
