Remember Perl Fritz pointing out to Gloria in the Gloria films that her behavior is incongruent with the messages she's sending, like smiling when she's upset? I feel the need to do something like this with a client but not sure if I want to attack that part of her relating to others.
Client has a way of relating to me and presumably others by saying "mm, right" to what I say to her as though it is a pre-existing understanding or something she understands in the moment but when I ask "does this make sense to you" she will often say things like "maybe, kind of, not really" after communicating same-page. I recognize that one reason I want to bring this up is because it annoys me when I will communicate things in an esoteric way and she says "mm, right" as though she solved the koan instantly. I dont want to attack her mode of relating because of certain clinical observations but the incongruence between expression and inner feeling feels worth attention.
What do?
