Is it inappropriate to discuss sex?

Ive been seeing my therapist 8 months now. I'm 28F and hes in his 50s/60s. Lately i have been questioning whether or not I may have been sexually abused/ sexually assaulted a young child. As well as vague memories, I've been wondering if my sexual habits/ kinks could be related to abuse / trauma. I don't know whether this kind of discussion is crossing a line for some therapists? Particularly if they are of a different gender and different generation? I know I could ask him but I'd like to see what other people think first, in case it's too inappropriate to even ask him about it.
