My SD card slot worked... until it didn't

I have a Thinkpad T440, and when I first installed Linux Mint on it, the SD card slot didn't seem to work at all. I'm absolutely not well versed in Linux, this is the first time I use it after what seems like a lifetime on Windows.

After a kernel panic error due to a corrupted kernel update a couple of weeks ago, I ended up re-installing Linux Mint entirely (fortunately, as this is my side computer, I didn't have much on it and it was easy to back-up), but upon re-installing, finishing all updates etc, the SD slot was working properly. I assumed it was probably because of drivers that weren't loaded properly before and called it a day : it worked fine, so why bother.

Thing is, moments ago, I wanted to import a video from my camera to this laptop and... nothing. The SD slot isn't recognized again. No USB peripheral connected sounds at all (again), like it was doing the first time.

Nothing really changed on the system there has been a couple of updates, but nothing major at all and I really don't know why it was working fine and now it somehow... doesn't.

Has anyone encountered this problem and know how to fix it?
