Possible TOS with arterial compression
Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice or comforting words because I’m anxious.
Im 29 F and living in Ontario Canada. I’ve had intermittent pain on my left side from my collarbone and chest down to my hand the last couple years. It’s gotten worse the last year and moreso the last few months after working out upper body. Since then I’m in constant pain on the left side, my neck feels rock hard, and occasional intense pain that radiates down to my left hand. I would get worried its heart related but it always went away. I went to physio for about a month and it was making it worse. My therapist said he thinks its mild thoracic outlet syndrome due to tight neck muscles that are compressing on spinal nerves. But because it wasn’t getting better, and actually causing more pain, we stopped physio and I consulted my doctor who sent me for X-ray, ultrasound on my collarbone area, and vascular ultrasound.
My X-ray showed no extra rib, the normal ultrasound showed nothing, but the vascular ultrasound showed narrowing of arteries on BOTH sides of my body. I now have to see a vascular surgeon. This is all I know so far so I guess I’m in limbo until I meet with the surgeon. I’ve struggled with health anxiety for yearssss so this is really stressing me out. I honestly thought it was nerve related. I understood arterial TOS to happen when people have the extra rib. I don’t have swelling or colour changes, just pain, some tingling, and maybeee temperature changes but very mild? I’ve noticed I’m way more symptomatic if I do any overhead movements with my arm, so I try to not lift my arm much. The pain is manageable when not using my arm.
Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: Attached my ultrasound results in comments if anyone has had similar. Whats bothering me is I’m symptomatic on my LEFT side, and the findings show it’s worse on the right. They also wrote right hand numbness when I said LEFT.
