TIFU by not changing the font size on my computer.

I have been an “office worker” for 14 years. Im 30m and I’ve been a software engineer for 12 of them. I make great $ and I get to work on interesting things but I am often staring at a screens for long periods of time sometimes working 12-24 hrs in a stretch. Over time I have learned about ergonomics, I have carefully crafted my office with selective keyboard/mouse and monitors and stands and comfortable seating and desk. I have never had issues with my eyes until recently my eyes are dry, I get terrible headaches, I feel a knot on the side of my temple tensing up and clenching my jaw, and then my vision becomes blurry. It scared the shit out of me because my eyes are everything losing vision is my worst fear because my mother was blinded in an accident when I was 14. I saw an eye doctor and he told me that I was experiencing severe eye strain and to take a break for a few days and when I go back to dial up the font size.

In every editor or terminal since basically the beginning of time the default settings for font are almost comically small. I don’t think it was an issue on older lower resolution screens back in the day but I have been using the same default setup for 6 years. My day has become dramatically easier to get through all because i turned up the font size in my editors.

TLDR;

My eye doctor told me to turn my font size up and I’m worried that I’ve permanently damaged my eyes after 14 years of office work.
