Are my sons afternoon naps over with?

I have a 2 year old, and lately, he hasn't been napping and going to bed much earlier. I've had friends with kids that were about his age or a few months older that still went down for naps in the afternoon. The thing is he doesn't seem to cranky before bed and if he does nap he usually does so later and is greatly upset when he wakes up from them . Is it normal to take afternoon naps out of the equation for him? Again, he's having no issue going down for the night. Seems like no afternoon and earlier bedtimes are working well for him though we have still tried to get him down for naps
