My gameboy shutoff without warning. What should I have done?

So about 20 years ago, my gameboy shut off after about 4 hours of playing it. I tried setting it in the sun, putting it in rice, and blowing on the power button. Was there something I should’ve done besides oppress women and minorities after it happened?
