I went to Tom Waits's place from Down By Law!

This building, at 835 Touro Street, was one of the first places I went when I moved to New Orleans, and now that I'm moving away soon, I wanted to get a photo of me where Tom was. Jarmusch is my favorite director and Waits may be my favorite artist (I have tattoos dedicated to *Paterson* and *Closing Time)* so it felt awesome to finally get these pics.

While I was there, the current owner of the building (which is actually a cute wedding venue now!) came outside and talked to me and my friend about the history of the building for like 10 minutes. While the poles and railing are, indeed, original and the same as they were back when the film was shot, the interior of the building was completely destroyed by Katrina and subsequently redone. I don't know if the scene between Zack and Laurette was filmed inside this building, but it did used to be apartments, so it's possible. Now, it's the wedding venue on the bottom and I believe apartments on the second floor and a penthouse on the third.

The owner jokingly said to make sure to tag her if I post the pics, but she was truly just so kind and friendly that I wanted to shout her out anyways! She'd never heard of the film, but she said I wasn't the first person she's seen taking pics outside because of it. Anyways, if they see this, shoutout Barrilleaux's because y'all are the nicest people.
