Less-than-Ideal Gear Placements Below a Crux: Combine, Clip Separately, Something Else?
I've seen and read a lot about the need to build anchors with bomber pieces and the need to place bomber pieces, but sometimes there's just not awesome placements at a point on the route you really need some protection, or maybe there's a spot you can get just two 6/10 placements before a crux. In these kinds of places along a pitch, how would you clip into the pieces and what's your thought process? Is it better to clip each adjacent 6/10 piece separately or to use anchor techniques to build some kind of equalization between the two pieces?
For example, on the recent "favorite trad videos" post, this video has a spot with multiple small cams below a crux: https://youtu.be/Eu3oHu42J4s?t=338 It looks like Brad Gobright clipped each of the two cams separately at that spot.
Elsewhere in the video: https://youtu.be/Eu3oHu42J4s?t=211 he combined two pieces (maybe a nut and a cam to protect from upward pull? Or are they equalized? I can't tell.)
What do other folks do in places where they need to have a lot of confidence below a crux especially on small cams and other questionable placements?
