Ashland VA North - Human Crossing Guard

For the Ashland, VA North pointing camera, on most mornings there is a human crossing guard augmenting the mechanical crossing guard.

I rarely see pedestrians being guided through the intersection, but I often see the human crossing guard waving vehicles through, as if a traffic cop.

I find it interesting, and wonder how this guard is funded, by the rail right of way owners? by Virginia DOT?, by the local schools? Or perhaps just a civic minded volunteer.

As of 08:43 Eastern, it looks like the human got in their SUV and drove away, so check between 0800 and 0840, and you'll see the person in the safety vest.
