Original Devastator/Constructions question

So I was reminiscing earlier about my childhood and remembered something. (Don't remember individual names and am too lazy to look them up at the moment) The crane and the dump truck, were they really badly made or was I unlucky? I can remember going thru about 3 of the cranes, whenever you pulled his two apart to make the chest, the two bits wouldn't clip together like they were supposed to, and even in vehicle mode they wouldn't stay together. And it seemed like he was really rare, I could only ever find a couple in stores.

And the dump truck, oh man. I lost count of how many I went thru. As soon as I opened his package, he fell apart into two pieces. I'd return him and get another, and it got so bad that the store manager insisted on opening one in front of me only for it to already be broken. I had to have gone thru at least 10 before getting one that didn't break as soon as you looked at it.

Was I just really unlucky or were these two just garbage?
