Guédelon visit - advice welcome!

I'll be heading to Paris and the Loire for a 2 week trip in April, and have set aside a whole day just for Guédelon. It may be the part of the visit I'm most excited about, though there is a lot of competition! Has anyone been recently and have tips or advice? I found surprisingly little here about trips to the site, and was wondering about things like appropriate footwear, do I need to bring my own water and snacks, should I dress to get dirty, etc. I'll have a car, and be driving in from lodging a couple hours away.
