What's the best neighborhood for a week in Rio de Janeiro?

My girlfriend and I are staying in Rio for a week in May and are wondering if residents or past travelers have advice about which neighborhood is best. Right now, we're considering Ipanema or Santa Teresa. They're obviously much different, but I'm wondering if people think one makes more sense for travelers interested in hitting the beach but also enjoying great music and dancing at night.
