Made my "decorating elf" knockoff.

So the bearings finally arrived from another supplier, and I was able to make the tool.

In the stainless tube, I have a dowel to take up space, a couple of disk magnets, then 3 sets of spacers/shims, and deep groove roller bearings.

I glued the last one in with just a touch of super glue.

I practiced on a piece of pine, then moved on to some cherry pieces. So far I'm really liking it. I've been just using my smallest spindle gouge to accent either side of the markings.

I'm quite happy with it so far. It's a pretty cool tool. I'm going to mess with a few of my other Dremel bits just because I can and see what kind of results I can get.

I do recommend making sure you don't have too much shank sticking out of the end, and I found that 3 sets of bearings is a good idea/sweet spot for stability of the bit.

Edit: the handle is Red Maple, I had cut a branch from the tree on the property a while back but had just left it hanging in the crook of the tree for the last year and change. Now that it's dried enough I started cutting the branch into sections to use. It's a very hard wood but also interestingly stringy. A pretty cool wood to use though. Certainly looks quite interesting, all I did was seal it with lacquer.
