Silica Desiccants as a quick drying agent?

Saw somebody post in another media about using silica desiccants as a quick drying agent with stated results of going from 70% humidity down to 8% on a rough turned bowl in 2 days with only a small number of very minor cracks.

Thought I might give it a try, has anybody else tried it?
