Newer fans who want to know some of the references in the City Walls video and some lore
I'm sorry the following is so long! There's just a lot.
Here's a list of the music videos related to the Clancy/Dema/Trench story, and a little bit of what is in each one:
**From Blurryface**:
[Heavydirtysoul](https://youtu.be/r_9Kf0D5BTs?si=nolFdhneySq7aonr) (2016) - I think this is the first appearance of a Bishop.
From July 2017 to July 2018, there was complete silence from the band. Their Twitter profile pic was a closed eye.
Then in July 2018, they began dropping singles for the album **Trench**, which is where this story really starts being told. [Jumpsuit](https://youtu.be/UOUBW8bkjQ4?si=Z6SQA1Kw_1dCsYq6) begins with Tyler addressing the camera while standing on the smoking burned car from Heavydirtysoul: ">!We've been here the whole time. You were asleep. Time to wake up.!<" The car then bursts into flames again and the camera takes us away from him and into Trench, where Clancy has been lying in a spring on the ground, alone but wearing a Bandito jacket. Then a Bishop on horseback appears, like in City Walls, and starts chasing him. (There used to be differing theories on whether this was Nico or whether it might have been Keons, a friendlier Bishop who genuinely cares for the citizens of his section of Dema, including Clancy, and wanted to take him back into the fold. I guess now we know.) These two videos are the first appearance of the Banditos, who are watching from cliff tops above. But at the end of this video it goes back to Tyler on the burning car, who takes a Bandito jacket out of trunk and puts it on. The events of Jumpsuit were the first FPE - Failed Perimeter Escape - that we see.
(This video was filmed in Iceland, where [Will Smith owns a house and ](https://youtu.be/b1ypZb7RVfQ) that's what you see here today.)
In [NatN](https://youtu.be/hMAPyGoqQVw?si=SLGzajO3JtPCJEgm), Clancy is in his room inside Dema. He doesn't have the black paint on. He's packing a bag while he sings, and the Bishops are all busy holding a worship service with other citizens. We also see the Banditos entering the city to get him, and other citizens see them from their windows. The Banditos approach Clancy as he's escaping and give him one of their jackets with their colors on it.
(Also this was filmed in Ukraine, at [Josh's old high school where Will Smith was](https://youtu.be/teIy4u1pqgs) his biology teacher.)
In [Levitate](https://youtu.be/uv_1AKKKJnk?si=3NxalGSrugnYHE8x), Clancy is in the Bandito camp (and for some reason the burnt car from HDS is there too?). They shave his head and take turns putting yellow tape on his jacket. But at the end >!he is dragged back. The Banditos next to him don't even bat an eye. This is not a new thing. One just says,!< "Welcome to Trench." Another FPE.
(Also it's [Josh's birthday and Blurryface attacks him](https://youtu.be/DJZnuVSbH5E) 😊 )
(Recognize those words? "Welcome back to Trench!" opening Overcompensate. And the words immediately following are taken directly from the song Bandito on this album.)
You might also notice that Clancy has a scrape on his nose; Tyler kept that going outside the mv too.
Also from Trench, in 2019, we get to meet Ned (and his antlers) in the video for [Chlorine](https://youtu.be/eJnQBXmZ7Ek?si=SFMstsNeuDlIhTsU)!
**Scaled and Icy**:
In this part of the story, Clancy was being forced by the Bishops for create music for them to use as propaganda, to make Dema look like a better place.
In May 2021 we got [Saturday](https://youtu.be/FiXVRdotCEk?si=SqI1UyY0VxMTIc23): the boys are performing for a party inside a submarine being controlled by weird fake "Bishops". I don't know exactly who they were supposed to be or where they were going. Anyway, a big dragon (its name is Trash) smashes into the sub and cracks it open.
(Submarine borrowed from their [good friend Will Smith ](https://youtu.be/rABWF3RRUVM), who didn't know they were going to have to ruin it)
Then we go to [The Outside](https://youtu.be/eNcvblM8-_o?si=c5josfVlPEuaIgsA). We see Trash, the dragon that crashed the submarine, then we see Keons the "good" Bishop, who we discover was controlling him. Important things happen. Also during this one Clancy gets the antlers that are what he uses to attack Nico later. Clancy does his first seizing of a dead body and makes his first direct attack on the Bishops.
Fun fact: They were just in a [warehouse in Iowa ](https://youtu.be/kFqC9eb3-oU). And that's what you see here today.
Pre-Clancy promo: Letters from Dema were mailed IRL to some lucky fans.
[I Am Clancy](https://youtu.be/ozlHHR_eSxc?si=4rMI5tbzPvN-dhXG) video distilled and summarized the lore in preparation for the new album.
You probably already know these, but if you haven't watched the **Clancy** music videos, watch in order:
The [Overcompensate](https://youtu.be/53tgVlXBZVg?si=Wbh_WewQQtge_w79) video: Clancy performed his second seizing and laid out the plans to the citizens of Dema. We end with him and TB arriving on another beach, greeted by Banditos.
The [Navigating](https://youtu.be/07YtBj3BEBQ?si=5SYVwlB04dRzagdi) video: Banditos lead them away from the beach and towards the next Bandito camp. If you haven't watched the video, I won't tell you what the little twist is.
The [Paladin Strait](https://youtu.be/mix9YfaaNa0?si=bfReRr7YhaGVGpSr) video begins with the Banditos prepping for their attack and escorting Clancy to the Bishops and Nico, ending with the famous "Hello Clancy".
The Clancy Tour advanced the story with [letters between the citizens](https://twentyonepilots.fandom.com/wiki/Citizen_Letters) of Dema, clues in what Tyler was wearing each night, and with the interaction between Clancy and Torchbearer each night. As the tour went on, Clancy began to hesitate before taking the jacket from TB, longer and longer, until the final night when [Clancy acted as if Torchbearer](https://youtube.com/shorts/EZM7eSraA7I?si=ZwfiZ_2lGR2iDvZY) wasn't even there. Tyler also covered his eyes with the Clancy stole as he walked away; interpret that as you wish.
**Breach**:
Then in the mv for [The Contract](https://youtu.be/QZfH7cFp3Ys?si=ivcWHHOb1xfvbmj4), which opens where Paladin Strait left off, it's Clancy addressing Torchbearer ("I promised you a contract") and it's TB who seems to not see or hear Clancy.
Then [I Am Torchbearer](https://youtu.be/HihZwtFDDe0?si=8rwMjIljYyAuHWgj).
And here we are now [at the end of the story](https://youtu.be/5Ozjel72yjQ?si=1o7f9JUXQLIJ6A7W). This amazing story.
I know this is long; it's for people who don't, or didn't, watch the music videos because there's so much detail in those that's not in the words of the song, and for newer fans who have said that they are interested in the lore.
