1948 RQD platen moving freely?

Normally the platen ratchets when you move it with a knob. It freely spins when you disengage the paper release lever. My platen now moves freely regardless of what position the paper release lever is in. When the paper release lever is engaged, I *can’t* take the paper out freely, it must be disengaged to grab it and get it out. So when the paper release lever is engaged, the hidden roller is in fact engaging like it’s supposed to, so I think it’s a problem with the platen…?

This just happened, it was working before and typing fine. Didn’t hear or feel any snapping.

I was literally making my sister a video showing her how to use this, as I’m gifting it to her. It broke during the video.
