MA (USA) Ballot Question on allowing Unionizing of Uber Drivers

You can read the text of the law at the link.

How do people feel about this? Uber and Lyft just settled with the state separately to guarantee $32.50/hr for time the are actively doing rides and other benefits that is going into effect this week, so the ballot question is separate from that.

Personally, the question is a. it sketchy to me for a couple reasons. First, it requires the personal information of drivers to be sent to the organizations attempting to unionize and to keep being updated.

Second, it the only counts drivers as drivers if they are in the top 50% of rides completed in the last two quarters. Then, for a union to be established, they only need 25% of the votes of the 50% who count? So 12.5% of the drivers need to vote yes to establish the union? What the F?

I could see not counting people who barely drive at all, but starting by throwing out half the drivers from voting? Why didn't they just pick like 40 hours a week active on the platform or something like that?

I have worked along side several unions in my career. Some of them do a great job representing and protecting their members, some barely do anything but collect dues, and some even get captured by management and hurt the workers. I don't have a lot of faith in union that doesn't even want to do the work to get more than 12.5% of the drivers.

Thoughts?
