What is the little nub on bottom of Samsung 9G3SC?

So, the G93SC does not have the smart monitor stuff and doesn't come with a remote. I thought this might be an IR sensor, it certainly looks like one, but this model apparently doesn't have one, and despite some mixed info, the remotes that were suggested elsewhere do not work and cannot pair with it. Other research says there are no remotes compatible with it, and I'm stuck with a very breakable Jog button. That's fine if I can't have a remote, though I worry about wear and tear on the Jog button.

So my question is, what is this thing then? If it's not an IR sensor, then is it just a placeholder for one? Why is it there if it's nothing?
