Ads playing before safety announcements

I was on UAL2854 SFO-BNA last night which used an A320. We encountered some turbulence a couple of hours in to the flight and the fasten seatbelts light was illuminated several times. Every time this happened one or two ads played over the PA before the automated message to return to your seat and fasten your seatbelt.

Was this some sort of fluke or is United regularly undermining safety messages with advertising?
