Misconceptions in UP history

Hello! I am working on a project researching different misconceptions in the history of the Upper Peninsula. Does anyone have some that they find particularly interesting? I am looking for more historical ones like Calumet supposedly almost becoming the Capitol of Michigan. Not too interested in ghost stories. Thanks!
