For those going to the game today - please read.
Good morning,
Today we take our place among those at USA vs. Australia in Seattle.
I’ve done my part to prepare. Phone shut off early. Honey for the throat last night and again this morning. Every reasonable effort has been made to ensure peak supporter performance.
By kickoff, I will be ready.
By the national anthem, I will likely have no voice left.
Some people think fans just watch games. Those people are mistaken.
Today, we are part of the team.
Ninety minutes from now, it will be my duty to sing, shout, chant, and generally make a fool of myself in support of the United States Men’s National Team.
Last week, millions of Americans tuned in to watch.
The country is paying attention. The hook is set. Today is an opportunity.
An opportunity for this team to capture a nation. An opportunity to give people something to believe in. An opportunity, if only for a few hours, to bring together people who otherwise agree on very little.
The players have their job.
And the supporters have theirs.
So today, in a packed stadium, every chant, every song, every roar becomes part of something bigger than ourselves.
Most people will remember the goals.
Few will remember the supporters who lost their voices helping create the atmosphere that made those moments possible. But that’s okay.
Because today I have a great opportunity to impact and support a team I’ve followed for more than 20 years.
It’s my duty. It’s my honor.
And I intend to leave everything I’ve got in Seattle.
Why not us?
